Geneva Evie Toland
Amplification Steward
JEDI Dojo Apprentice
Geneva Evie Toland (she/her/hers) is the magic behind the scenes at Fierce Allies.
After working for several years as an educator and farmer at various white-dominated nonprofits, Geneva realized the critical need for redistributing power and privilege within herself and her communities, so that the environmental field and others can be dismantled, destructed, and regenerated with equity and justice at their center. To mobilize this realization into action, Evie joined the JEDI Dojo program as a Fierce Allies (FA) apprentice in January 2021.
Upon completion of the Dojo, Evie continued her FA apprenticing work, while also stepping into a staff role as the Amplification Steward. In this capacity, Evie is the “happenings maker” and “quality booster” of Fierce Allies, transforming the visions and strategies of Miakoda and the FA Community of Practice into high-quality, engaging material and programming that enhances the experience of all collaborators. Through her attention to detail and passion for clear communication and creativity, Geneva ensures Fierce Allies work is accessible, impactful, and fulfilling on its purpose to advance Justice, Equity, Decolonization and Intersectionality. When collaborating with Evie, The FA staff and Community of Practice often find themselves saying, “Everyone needs an Evie!”
As a descendant of European settlers, Geneva feels privileged to be responsible and accountable to the Black and Indigenous leaders in her life. Evie is also a poet, plant tender, bird enthusiast, and devoted apprentice to the more-than-human world.
